Hello climbers and future climbers!

In this guide, we'll take a closer look at Geyikbayırı Climbing Area, one of the world's most popular sport climbing destinations. Geyikbayırı is more than just a climbing area, it's a true climbers' village. Here are some useful things you should know before your visit.

Where is Geyikbayırı Climbing Area?

Surrounded by mountains and connected to highland plateaus by steep mountain roads, Geyikbayırı is a peaceful village offering stunning mountain and city views, lush greenery and a beautiful stream that creates a truly unique atmosphere.

Located among the mountains rising to the west of Antalya, Geyikbayırı is approximately 30 km from Antalya city center and 40 km from Antalya International Airport.

How to Get to Geyikbayırı

The climbing sectors of Geyikbayırı are located along the main road, beginning roughly 1 km before reaching Geyikbayırı village.

Its proximity to Antalya, wide range of transportation options, easy car rental services and public buses make the area easily accessible for climbers and visitors alike.

One of Geyikbayırı's greatest advantages is that you don't necessarily need a car. The village can easily be reached from Antalya by car, motorcycle, scooter, bicycle or public transportation.

Public buses also run regularly from Antalya Bus Terminal and the city center. From Antalya Airport, you can take Bus 600 or a Havaş Airport Shuttle to the bus terminal. From there, take Bus 521 to Geyikbayırı. Alternative routes 521A and 521C also serve the area.

Every year, Geyikbayırı welcomes thousands of climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from both Turkey and around the world. The village offers a wide variety of accommodation options.

Several climbing campgrounds are located between the climbing sectors, while rental houses are available throughout the village. Most campgrounds primarily cater to climbers and other outdoor athletes.

You can stay in your own tent, rent a tent or bungalow, share a rental house with friends, or enjoy the area in a campervan.

If you're travelling with your own tent, you'll find plenty of beautiful spots to camp within the campgrounds. Campervan travelers can park their vehicles and usually have access to electricity, shared kitchens, showers, and toilets.

Many campgrounds also offer meals, while several climber-friendly restaurants are located nearby.

If you decide to visit Antalya city during your stay, here are a few places we recommend:

  • Pain Doré Bakery

  • Konak Dondurma (traditional Turkish ice cream)

  • Piyazcı Hüseyin (for Antalya's famous Piyaz)

Hiking Around Geyikbayırı

The Lycian Way, one of Turkey's most famous long-distance hiking trails, begins (or ends, depending on which direction you're walking) on the Antalya side in Geyikbayırı before continuing towards Hisarçandır.

The area also offers several other hiking trails. One of our favorites and one of the easiest and most popular, is the trail leading to the ancient city of Trebenna, which follows a scenic section of the Lycian Way.

For a more challenging adventure, it's also possible to hike to the summit of Geyik Sivrisi, the impressive mountain visible from almost everywhere in the village.

Although experienced climbers may feel confident tackling the mountain on their own, we strongly recommend hiring a local guide. Even its easiest and most popular route is considerably more serious than it appears.

Bouldering Around Antalya

Antalya is primarily known for its rope climbing. While the region has a handful of multi-pitch routes, the vast majority of climbing consists of single-pitch sport routes.

There are also several excellent bouldering areas around Antalya. However, at the time of writing, there is no comprehensive published guidebook covering these boulder problems.

Respect the Area

Above all, remember that Geyikbayırı is a village before it is a climbing destination. Respecting the local community and helping preserve the area ensures that climbers and locals can continue sharing this unique place for many years to come.

Please help keep Geyikbayırı beautiful by following a few simple guidelines:

  • Pack out all of your rubbish.

  • Never light fires in the climbing areas or surrounding forest.

  • Do not cut or damage trees.

  • Camping in the forest is prohibited.

  • Do not paint rocks or add markings to the cliffs.

  • Flying drones without permission is not allowed.

  • Keep noise levels low, especially around climbing sectors and campsites.

  • Some trails cross private property—please respect landowners and avoid causing any damage.

  • Bees can be particularly active during June, September, and October, so plan accordingly if you're allergic.

Other Climbing Areas Around Antalya

Thanks to its limestone mountains and the work of many dedicated local route developers, Antalya offers much more than just Geyikbayırı.

Sport climbing can also be found in areas such as Çitdibi, Olympos, Çıralı, and Beycik. If you're interested in traditional climbing or longer routes, you'll find excellent opportunities on Sivri Dağ and the surrounding big walls.

Local climbers and certified guides are the best source of up-to-date information about these areas.
